She was the youngest of two children of Donna Burke and George Burke. Brooke was just two years old when her father passed away was taken care of by her mother. She won her first beauty contest at the age of 14. She and a friend traveled to Scottsdale in Arizona to audition for an agency for modeling a few years later. Brooke was able to land a talent agent quickly. She attended both Sahuaro High School and Palo Verde High School, where she was the queen of homecoming in 1989. She was already a well-known print model at the age of 18, and appeared on billboards, magazine covers, and swimsuit calendars. Burke was, following the advice of her friends she moved to Los Angeles to study broadcast journalist at UCLA.
